FAQs

Q: Why become a member?
A: To join our Society is to become part of an extended Italian family. We offer many opportunities to explore and learn about an individual’s Italian heritage and to meet other Italian Americans. But anyone can join who realizes that they are part Italian in their hearts!  We offer many social events to encourage camaraderie among our members:  bocce games and leagues, Italian movie and book clubs, cooking classes, picnics, Columbus Day and Christmas dinners, lectures about the various Italian regions and traditions, participation in the Holy Rosary Italian Festival, and our yearly visit to Camp Atterbury for the Chapel in the Meadow mass and picnic.

Q: How do I know if my membership is still active?
A: Please send an email inquiry to [email protected] and the membership chairperson will respond with the information.

Q: What is Bocce and how do I learn to play?
A: Bocce (ball) is a form of lawn bowling which is very popular in Italy and with Italian Americans, here in the United States and wherever Italians settled.  (The sport is very easy in concept and is played by all age groups, but the skill comes from refining the techniques needed to beat your opponents.)   IHSI maintains four bocce courts at Lacey Park and offers league play in spring, summer and fall and a Blizzard Bocce Tournament on New Year’s Day for the diehard aficionados!!!

Q: How do I buy a gift membership?
