Corporate Sponsor Spotlight:
Un Conversazione with Chris Marra, Owner of Angelo’s Italian Market
Carol:
Ciao, Chris!
Thank you for supporting the Italian Heritage Society of Indiana through your sponsorship!
And congratulations on the expansion of your business with a second location. Can you tell us about your future plans?
Chris:
Currently, we are in the process of opening a second location in downtown Zionsville! We hope to open in early fall of 2025. Beyond that, we will have to wait and see! We also hope to expand our wholesale pasta program and have our pasta offered at more local restaurants.
Carol:
That’s very exciting. What is the inspiration behind Angelo’s?
Chris:
My inspiration for opening Angelo’s spans four generations, from my grandfather, Angelo, for whom the business is named, to my kids.
My grandfather and I spent a lot of time together and had a very close relationship. He introduced me to great Italian food and to entrepreneurship. He was a business owner throughout his life, and I always wanted to have my own business because of him.
My dad is my business partner and also part of the inspiration for Angelo’s. He took my love for Italian food to the next level by always hosting and cooking big Sunday dinners growing up. We would have it all, pasta, sauce, meatballs, sausage, pizza, bread and more. My dad is and always was a great cook.
Lastly, my kids were a big inspiration. They LOVE pasta and eat it every day. I wanted them to have access to genuine pasta, which is not available here.
Carol:
Please tell us more about what a customer will find at Angelo’s. What products and services do you offer?
Fresh pasta is the main thing. We make all our pasta in-house. Customers will also find house-made sauces, meatballs, breads, and lasagna, all of which are for take-home preparation.
Most people come into our shop looking for a few tasty items to take home for a quick, easy dinner!
We also carry a selection of items that we do not make in-house, like Italian-style cheeses, guanciale, pancetta, olives, olive oils, salami, prosciutto, mortadella , and more!
It is important to note that we are not a deli, a sandwich shop, or a mega Italian grocery. We are a fresh pasta shop at our core, with a few other Italian-style offerings. But we always have some grab-and-go “ready to eat” snacks like caprese salad, pasta salad, antipasto snack boxes, and a few ready-made sandwiches.
We also do some catering, we wholesale pasta to restaurants, and we offer pasta-making classes!
Carol:
Pasta classes are very popular these days. What does Angelo’s offer and how can someone sign up?
Chris:
We currently offer two different pasta-making classes, geared toward both new pasta makers and people who have not made it in a long time.
The first covers the basics like mixing, kneading, resting, & sheeting. Then we move onto cutting & shaping a variety of pasta to take and cook at home.
The second is a stuffed pasta class. In this one, I demonstrate how to make 12 or so different filled pastas, then each person has a chance to make their own.
All classes are led by me!
Sign up for classes on our website under the Make Pasta tab.

Carol:
Lastly, how would you define Italian heritage?
Chris:
Italian heritage means connection — to food, to family, to roots.
It means honoring where we come from by sharing what we make with love and intention.
